I am based in the machining hall of our engine factory. I am responsible for controls projects and integrations within series production for our three component machining lines. I work with Maintenace, production, logistics and planning teams on a daily basis to fulfil my job role and achieve my targets.
I have completed a series of placements within various departments and functions in the factory. This has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the operations and procedures that are required for engine production. Alongside this, I have completed several external training courses and qualifications to compound my knowledge.
I thoroughly enjoy the programme here at BMW. The opportunity to collaborate with apprentices at other sites across the UK and Europe allows for better learning and an enjoyable experience. The training provided is relevant to the industry and has equipped me for a career in the modern engineering industry.
The organisation is structured to allow apprentices to focus on their training and personal development in their time at the company. This allows you to get the most out of what is on offer and maximise your experiences. Each apprentice has a tailored plan allowing you to focus on what you enjoy the most!
The BMW group offer fantastic support with studying and other work outside the business. Mentoring and guidance is provided by others to allow you to get the most from your time and courses. Weekly and monthly reviews are conducted and channels are in place for gaining further support where required.
The training providers are very good at listening to feedback and acting on any issues that you have. This ensures you are satisfied with the course and able to achieve all of your learning outcomes. Support is available and extra support beyond the timetable can be accessed easily when required.
My qualification provides me with sufficient background theory to allow me to learn my role more fully. This enables you to get the most out of your time at work and utilise the experience of others in your team. Additional training is provided for specific jobs roles where it is of benefit.
There are a handful of extra-cuticular activities to get involved with in the business. Often, apprentices and other departments/teams arrange their own activities and events. During covid, a lot of activities and events have been stopped however these are likely to resume when it is suitable to do so.
Yes
The BMW Group is a fantastic employer and provided a fantastic level of support and training to their apprentices. The opportunity to complete rotational placements around the business are an excellent way to gain a broad understanding of how the manufacturing process takes place and integrated with other facilities in the network.
Be honest in your application. Highlight your personal experiences and why your soft skills make you a good candidate for the role. Demonstrate how you can work in a team environment as well as independently. Include examples of past work and how you have met the required standards and expectations for that role.
