We gained insight into all the different job roles that HSBC has to offer such as Accounting, programming and human resources. We also got to speak to many different people who spoke about their personal experiences in the workplace. We also collaborated with our peers to create a presentation when faced with a problem to talk about.
I gained leadership and confidence skills from being in a group and sharing my ideas as well as listening to others to make sure everyone’s best played a part into the project. We also developed our communication skills with professionals that we got to speak with virtually. Moreover, I got interview skills and feedback from doing a mock interview.
I enjoyed the work experience very well, I liked meeting new people both from higher roles and students my age. We received many breaks which was also very considerate. It kept me engaged as we did very different activities day to day so the experience was all rounded and inclusive.
It was pretty well organised as we had a structured timetable set that was followed. It was fast paced and we only ran over time a couple of times but not by too much. We managed to hit every desired target in listening to panels and presentations as well as asking our own questions.
I learnt a lot about the whole company culture like their values and what they hold true to HSBC. They showed us how they integrate these in every part of their organisation and roles. In addition, their employees and apprentices talked to us about a day in their life and what it is like to work there.
It has shaped my career path a lot as before taking the work experience I was already interested in economics and finance so I decided that this would be my chance to find out more. However, in a way it made me decide that banking may not be for me after doing the work experience as it clashes with my lifestyle a lot but I still value it a lot.
I didn’t need to be paid or reimbursed as it was virtual and purely a work experience programme with HSBC. Everything I learnt and enjoyed was worth so much more, however before they decided to make it online they offered to pay for travel and stay costs which was considerate.
Yes there were lots opportunities. Such as, creating a LinkedIn account and adding other employees to network and connect with outside of the work experience. They offered advice and help if we ever needed it especially at a young and potential age we are at. We met a plethora of such employees making us feel not alone. In fact they encouraged us to network more as a key to advance into a career path.
Yes
I would recommend HSBC to a friend because there is such variety in the roles that there are there is bound to be at least one thing they would be interested in and it gives you many different skills that can prepare you for the real work place in a different job.
I would say is to be yourself and don’t be afraid to ask questions as it makes you seem like your interested to know about HSBC and have an open mind. Try to showcase your best skills and convince them that you are unique and that no one could replace someone like you.
