  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role is still very similar to my previous role as a paralegal, undertaking client work, progressing cases, assisting solicitors in the team and other colleagues. This includes liaising with clients, the court, experts etc. I now also spend time studying.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained more technical knowledge in both my current field and other areas of law whilst doing my studying. I feel that this will add more depth to my knowledge in practice as I can better identify certain issues or areas of law.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the workshops and preparing for these as I like the learning aspect of my role. I am starting to think about my portfolio so I am enjoying reflecting on skills I already have and on those I can improve.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme itself is well organised and well structured, although it has taken me a little while to get used to the new platforms that this is on and settle in. I have always found it easy to ask questions and seek support.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer is supportive of my course, although I am well established in my current role and I am trusted to manage my own time and time for my studying around the workload that I already have.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have felt very supported by my training coach with regular coaching check ins and I can always email with queries and receive very quick responses, which is incredibly helpful.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the studying element of my role is helping to broaden and deepen my legal understanding which directly assists in my role, and starting to look at my portfolio is helping me to reflect on my capabilities at this stage and what areas I can develop further.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, I am part of a diversity group and there are regular BD and social networking events, both regionally and nationally across the team, so there is lots to get involved with

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel well supported but also challenged in my role and I feel that I have the opportunity to progress with my career. My role is difficult and stressful at times, but I am also exposed to great work and responsibility.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Irwin Mitchell?
  • I feel that IM values the ability of colleagues to work as a team and add value to the team and to clients, so I would advise others to think carefully about what they bring to the team as an individual but also a team player.
