My role as an apprentice means I get to work with different departments in ICT. I am never doing one thing. I started of as a 1st and 2nd line support where I supported users directly and resolved queries. Now I am involved in undertaking bigger projects, making sure network security is upto date and working on improving infrastructure in the company.
I have learnt a vast majority of skills. When I first started I lacked confidence and communication skills. But now I am very confident talking to users and customer. I have grown by liaising with customers and third party companies. I have also learnt alot about the network infrastructure. I have pickup tipsand learnt new things by talking with experienced people within the company.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the program although challenging it has helped me with many things in life such as keeping a balanced and healthy lifestyle. I have met new like minded people and enjoyed talking and sharing experiences. Overall it had been a life changing opportunity to be learning and earning at the same time.
It is fairly organised in the beginning, however I feel like like some modules are rushed and alot of individual work is packed into a module. I definitely think apprentices should be given more time depending on module work assignments. Some assignments take less time than others, however we have been given the same time for each module.
My employer has been quite supportive with my studies and always looking to help support me and add value. They have tried to align work I carry out at uni with the workplace. I have been given a mentor who is friendly and always supportive, can go talk with anytime.
We have been given fair amount of support. We have access to resources and librarys online so all content is available. We have meetings with uni tutors every other month to talk about any issues and progress, which is helpful. I think the training provided can be more helpful by providing better tools to note down off the job training and apprenticeship skills and knowledge.
I have learnt alot from university both knowledge and practice. With work it has given me the ability to take this knowledge and apply it. This has given me practice and confidence. It has given me the ability to contribute at my work place with new ideas and making things more efficient.
At my work place we hace been grouped together with other apprentices and had opportunity hosting internal events for staff and raising money for charity. We also go for meals with teams and carry out team activities, which really help build teams skill with other people who you don't often interact with.
Yes
From the day I started and how quick I have grown is impressive. I have learnt alot at uni and at my work place. I have been seen as a employee and not as an apprentice. People with great experience share knowledge and this has been really helpful. The company has been great and provide good benefits and always look after you.
If you have a chance to apply for apprenticeship go for it. It is a no brainer. It does not only mean you will earn and learn at the same time but it provides you opportunitys leading to great pathways. I have never looked backed at my decision. Overall the company is great they will look after you and treat you well. I haven't looked back since I joined.
