  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • In my time at HSBC on the apprenticship programme I have developed many skills. Most of this has been through on the job learning and training. There is so much to learn and everyday you learn new things. I have also learnt a lot revising for my financial exams. The revision guide is very deatiled and actually really relates to and helps with day to day work that I take part in.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by HSBC?
  • I cannot fault the values HSBC has. My line and functional managers are always checking up on me and asking how I am doing. I feel there is always someone I can chat to, whatever it may be regarding. I also feel very looked after externally from individuals running the programme, we have monthly calls to discuss progress and I find it very comforting and encouraging. As well as this I have monthly meeting with a lady from CAPITA who works me throigh my units that are also part of the programme. In terms of communication, help and guidence through the programme, there isnt anything more HSBC could provide. Really great support, I feel highly valued.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very. I always know what my aims and objectives are, short and long term. This is because of monthly meetings/calls. I am always working towards something. The programme has lots of different aspects to it which makes it not only structured but exciting.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The support is great. We have monthly meetings which is more than enough. She is very helpful during the meetings and very professional. She is also very considerate and always seeks to ensure I am ok and coping well at work I know if I have any queries/concerns my training provider is always a phone call/email away which I feel is great support.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I recieved a lot of support at the start as it was all new to me. My employer/functional manager was a great teacher and very patient as lots of the work can be very complicated. Gradually as you learn more, you recieve less guidence and help as you become more independant and you wont need the same level of support. However, I am always asked if I am okay by all colleagues not just my functional manager. Everyone is very helpful, supportivre and patient!

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I am happy with the salary. At the time I was looking at different apprenticeships banks were offering, the salaries all seemed to be fairly equal. I think the salary is fair considering my location as I am not in London so my costs arent massive.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I dont think there are a great deal of opportunities for school leavers. i think more organisations need to take on apprentices as I think its a realy great experience and opportunity and not enough companies run them.

  • 9. Would you recommend HSBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Excellent organisation. Helpful staff, Lots of opportunities, lots of internal and external support.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
  • The application process isnt easy. My advice is to research HSBC as much as possiible. Read up on their values and have personal and work related examples for all. For example, give me a time you have represented the value 'Openness', etc. Watch the news and be aware of HSBC and the latest in the news. Be confident and prepare, as the jobs are in hugh demand. Only 9 of us made it onto this programme and a total of 550 applied.. and no doubt this will go up next year as its really great!
