On my apprenticeship we have 6 month placements where we learn about different roles. These could include maintenance, procurement or manufacturing. On the apprenticeship you focus on roles within either maintenance, procurement or manufacturing and the majority of apprentices are in different teams.
Since starting at BAE Systems, I have learnt a number of new skills including: using Excel, learning about the Supply Chain, communication and much more. There is endless learning within the apprenticeship and you develop skills everyday.
I enjoy the apprenticeship, as there is a lot of support within the company. You get to meet many people across the business when changing placements and everyone is very friendly.
My apprenticeship was new in 2021 and since we started we have had endless support. We had a two week induction and then were placed into our 6 month placement. The programme is well organised, and we were aware of our placements upfront.
We receive support from a large number of people, including: managers, scheme leads, colleagues and our college tutor.
We have two college days a month and usually get two assignments to complete. We get half a day to complete our college work each week. Our college tutor replies to emails/calls throughout the month if we need support on assignments.
Our qualification helps us perform in our role, as it explains in more depth about the supply chain and possible impacts we may face. Studying the qualification gives us more knowledge about the industry and potential future roles.
There are many extra-curricular you can get involved in and you are able to choose the ones you are interested in. They are great for networking across the business and meeting other apprentices.
