As part of our college course we have to undertake different subjects to complete our apprenticeship, this includes CAD, Drawing, Communications, Maths, Electrical principles, Mechanical principles, health and safety and engineering project. As part of our role we create drawings for workers on the shop floor, we have to also complete experience in the workshop at college to understand more about the drawings.
Yes I have learnt a variety of new skills, I have a lot more confidence due to having to complete presentations in front of my class/tutors. I also have developed my knowledge in electrical and mechanical principles, this is something I was not experienced in but now have a better understanding of.
I enjoy my programme very much, I enjoy learning different subjects and advancing my knowledge. It has helped me develop more skills and become more confident in myself and my work. I also enjoy gaining experience in the different CAD softwares to help develop my knowledge and how it will be when we enter the business.
It is very well organised, we have a timetable with all our subjects and our days are well planned. The lessons we have are also well structured, we have adequate time for learning and then we are given assignments to complete. I feel very supported and the tutors are very helpful.
I receive a lot of support from my employer, my line manager is very supportive and I feel that I can go to her if I need support. If anything has happened within college that I am not comfortable with or want to question, I always feel that I can speak to my line manager about the issue.
I receive lots of help from my tutors, I am always confident enough to ask them questions if I am unsure of the work to ensure I am working to the highest standard. They are always very supportive and they provide me with enough knowledge to complete my course/qualification.
I feel that the qualification will help a lot, all the subjects we are learning are very useful in order to help us further our knowledge. All the subjects also develop our own personal skills which are important traits to have in the workplace such as being a good communicator.
There are some activities we can get involved with such as voluntary work. I recently volunteered to speak to primary school children about how I got my apprenticeship, it was a great experience and helped develop my confidence as well as share my experience with the children which they all enjoyed.
Yes
I would recommend BAE Systems to friends because it is a great company to work for and they are always looking for ways to develop people. Gaining this apprenticeship has helped me develop many skills which will help me in the future, I have also applied to do my HNC which BAE Systems allow you to do to help further your knowledge.
Always be confident and be yourself, BAE Systems are very supportive and like hard working employees. Be eager to learn and show that you will put yourself out your comfort zone in order to better yourself and how you perform at work. Also, ensure that you are willing to work hard to help contribute great work to the company.
