initial 6 moths consists of training in a training centre, where we learn practical skills such as household wiring, soldering, engine rebuilds and bench fitting. we are then sent on placements around different areas of the business for 3-6months at a time where we are given on the job training. during all of the we also study once a week towards our hnc.
i have developed many of my skills including household wiring, soldering, engine rebuilds and bench fitting. i have also learn a lot while studying about electrical circuits while at the college/uni.
everything has gone smoothly and i have enjoyed my time at the company. i have found everyone very helpful when needed, and certain jobs/tasks given are very enjoyable.
I find the program fairly well laid out, my year is the first for the design engineers so as expected a few admin problems here and there, but other than that it all seems to be going smoothly.
Bae systems like you to learn on your own as much as possible, so you will be taught what to do then be given the time to try it out for yourself. however they are also always there to back up[ and support if you have any issues or struggles with what you are doing.
Support is provided when asked for / when needed
There has been aspects of the qualification that have been very relevant to what i am doing, and others that aren't, however i have only just started in placement so in reality i am still to wait and see.
there are no work run sporting clubs, however some of the apprentices have started sport clubs between themselves where they meet up at weekend to enjoy their sport. as a bae systems employee you also have the option to join the united services sports teams.
Yes
the apprentice scheme is a great opportunity to get a foot into the business at a young age and develop your skills and knowledge alongside getting multiple qualifications.
Be patient, the application system may take a while but is more than worth it. make sure you feel you are prepared for the role, and get all work done before the deadlines with plenty of time to spare.
