I work 4 days a week in my placement team and then study for my BSc in Project Management one day a week with The University of Cumbria. I change placements every 6 months so there’s a huge variation of what we can get involved in.
I have definitely progressed in my general Project Management skills and knowledge. As well as being introduced to the engineering industry. I have furthered my computer skills with using multiple different softwares to aid my work.
I absolutely love it, the combination of working, learning and earning is amazing for me. Everyone within BAE Systems is so keen to aid your development and watch you succeed. There’s so many opportunities to push yourself and get noticed.
I believe it is structured very well. We spend one day a week studying at university from September through to May. The placements are thoughtfully planned and have excellent placement managers who take time to explain the work and guide you through your placement.
A huge amount! If you want a certain training course, you’ll generally be accepted or granted access. If you’re struggling with a topic in university, they’ll organise support sessions in that topic.
A lot of support! Our placement objectives align very well to our university content.
At the end of the apprenticeship, I will have gained a BSc in Project Management - I feel this will extensively help me in the coming years. Furthermore, BAE Systems pay for all the Project Management Degree Apprentices to sit their APM PMQ - a professionally recognised qualification.
Yes - we are encouraged to take part in “stretch” activities which take place in work time but it is not within your placement. This could be organising and facilitating the induction for the new apprentices or it could be running networking meetings for your cohort.
Yes
