  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role includes overseeing the business needs of the company, dealing with queries and complaints. Working alongside my team to ensure the shift runs smoothly. I am the first point of contact, safe holder and first aid trainer while on site. I complete weekly and monthly finance tasks

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have improved working under pressure within a busy establishment. Working alone means you need to be more organised and aware of timeframes. My people skills have also developed as I meet so many different characters that you have to adapt to each and every one. A new skill that I have learnt is being able to delegate tasks to my team, it is important to shift the whole workload from myself so that I can focus on completing the essential tasks.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It was a really shaky start at the beginning, my first coach left after a month without notifying me. I then was assigned to [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] who was a really lovely person. Unfortunately she then left the London region. I am currently working under [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], we had our first 1-1 meeting last month and she clearly outlined what she expects from me from now on, I feel she is the best trainer for me going forward. I really enjoy the apprenticeship as a whole It has enabled me to further develop my managerial skills. A lot of the courses go into real detail about how organisations and businesses run effectively and what we as a company need to utilise in order to get the best financial returns.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As a whole, the course is structured very well. I feel that I have not been the most productive over the past few months when it comes to completing tasks as it can be very difficult to balance my work life as well as the apprenticeship. Now that I have a Trainer who clearly outlines the way she operates and what she expects from me, I have been on top of the course and have managed to complete all modules which I have gone through.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I do not receive too much support from my employer, I usually message my Lifetime Coach if I have any questions as she is the one who is helping me to achieve my level 3. I do prefer to work independently as well so I rarely ask for assistance unless urgent.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • its difficult to say because over the course of my apprenticeship I have gone through 3 separate trainers, all were extremely nice and all had different methods of teaching, I have monthly meetings where we go through the tasks which I was expected to complete and we talk about what I have learned from it. Sometimes I find it difficult to get through to them via message but I understand that they all have private lives outside of work.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps massively, I have always been supported by my trainers to push to the next level, a lot of the training provided via the apprenticeship helps in my day to day role, especially when it comes to the financial sides of the things. I understand more now why we have certain rules and regulations in place

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not that I am aware of. In terms of work and social life, they are two separate things for me, my work do not provide any sort of events for myself or the team, however as a team, we do organise days out where we meet up but this is done independently.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Whitbread to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I love Premier Inn, I joined in 2018 with next to no customer service skills. The whole company as a whole values progression from within and that's exactly what I am trying to achieve myself. Courses like the one I'm doing is one of the things which whitbread offer its employee's as a way of helping them to progress and work there way up the ladder

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread?
  • Work smart, not hard. Working in a busy environment involves teamwork, so you need to be ready to come in and work effectively as a team as well as individually. If you want to progress within the company, speak with your duty manager's or hotel manager and they will give you training alongside more experienced staff members to help you progress
