in ancillary i am in the care a protection part of the job, this job involves making protective covering for things so that they do not get damaged and do not need to be re-installed or anyone having to work on them again, this saves a lot of money in the business just by putting protective covering stuff
my roll involves having to know how to sew, measure, cut exact lines and being able to figure out how to make something to cover whatever we are covering. At the start of my placement i got given a module to complete which taught me how to do each of these things and i also had an instructor helping me. I have learnt a lot of various new skills in this job
i very much enjoy my apprenticeship, i have learnt a variety of new skills and have met loads of new amazing people. I have had a lot of people on my placement help me as i am starting a new job and i am very grateful. They have taught me so much about the job and i cant wait to be working with them more.
when i was in college is wasn't that organised as we didn't have that many tutors at the start of the course and again when we were about to be moved we also didn't have as many tutors but when we did they taught us a lot and were very helpful and gave us great information to help us pass our exams, again when we moved not very organised as they weren't ready for us and had nothing to do for the first 2 days of being there but again after a week we were finally where we were meant to be and then again when we got put on our placements wasn't so organised as our passes were not transferred over and making it a struggle to get on site, Apart from these things the company was very organised but i do think it could use some improvement
I have had lots of support off my employer such as my team leader and careers mentor, they have helped me with what i need to work on and what i am doing good (great feedback for me to go off) they have also helped with with any problems have had and helped me with a solution to it. My manager has helped me from time time but is hard to contact sometimes so could use improvement on being able to get in contact with
I have received excellent support from my training provider, they have helped me get through my module and has given me a great understanding of the job and what skills i am needing for the job. He explains everything clear to me and gives me an examples of how to do it before i do it myself which is a great help as that is the best way for me to learn on a hands on job
during my time at college i felt as though i didn't need to know any of it for my certain role, except for the health and safety, i think my job is more of a learn on the job role, it cant really be taught unless you are on placement, as i didn't know what to do before i came on placement. I think for my roll we should be taught these things in college before we come in so then we have at least a basic knowledge of what we are doing when we go on placement and wont be wasting any time
personally i haven't heard of any activities that are available for you to get involved in at work except for one when i was in college, i heard they used to do a beach clean every year before covid which i would love to get involved in if they ever decide to bring it back, i think a beach clean is an amazing idea and helps the environment, i think barrow should do more stuff like this as i think a lot of people would get involved and it comes with many benefits to the environment and where we live
Yes
BAE systems offers loads of opportunities to young apprentices like myself and can help us a lot to starting and building our own careers, the best thing about BAE is that you dont have to stay in one place, you can move around all over as there is a variety of jobs in the yard and this also means you can get a variety of new skills.
Dont stress a lot as there isn't anything to be stressed about, if you fail an exam in college BAE let you resit it as they want to see you succeed. When you come onto site everyone is lovely and always willing to help if you ever need it and just have fun learning new skills and meeting new friends, a good group of people make the job a lot more easier and fun.
