The work experience involved the use of excel, speaking to team members and clients. It also included a lot of documentation. Clients were mainly spoken through Google Meet however, some of my team members were able to see the client physically at their business site. It was a fantastic experience.
When I was given specific tasks over placement that may have included repeating the same action over again. I always looked for ways that I could do it quicker through the internet and reaching out to my colleagues. This led me to find many Excel shortcuts which made me more efficient in documenting other pieces of work. I was also able to apply my learning from university which allowed me to challenge my seniors and bring up suggestions when we may have been stuck with how to document information that the client provided us.
The work experience was great. I was able to learn a lot of things that I did not know that I would. These things will be so useful in my day to day life and it will also be useful for my next placement and my future career as an accountant.
It was very well organised. From the get go, I knew what I needed to do and also knew what was expected of me. This was helped by the training that we needed to do before the actual placement itself. This was followed up with many checkup calls to make sure everyone was organised.
I learnt a lot about the company culture and it is an amazing culture. I would like to work there in the future because it is very comfortable and it means that I am able to do my work to a good standard without having to feel under pressure all the time.
My work experienced helped a lot in deciding my future career path. It gave me a great insight into what the typical working life is as an accountant. This was very positive in the sense that I can see myself becoming an accountant after this placement finishes or even in the distant future
Yes I was paid / reimbursed for this experience. Any time we had to travel to the client site or where the client is based or where the client head quarters is we were reimbursed for the travel there and back. We were also reimbursed for travels to and from home and our accomodation
There were many opportunities for networking and meeting other employees. This was done through the monthly socials where we could easily network and speak to many different employees of different grades. This was useful in developing knowledge into how the working life is for them and how different it is from mine.
Yes
It is a very good company with a very friendly working environment. You are exposed to so many different opportunities to learn and develop your skills which can easily be transposed into different industries. Some of the skills I developed were communication and time management which is very useful for any job.
At PwC make sure you are coming in with the intention to learn as much as possible because there is a very big opportunity to learn many fundamental skills needed in any working environment. When starting out, always try to ask for more work so that you can be exposed to more opportunities to develop.
