I am in a Logistics role, so my daily tasks can include anything from issuing different types of materials (whether it be raw materials, tools / fittings, consumables or personal protective equipment) to any employees. Other daily tasks can include operating a forklift truck to transport materials to different locations within the business.
Whilst completing my current apprenticeship, I have completed many different tasks, whether it be computer based or practical types. Within these tasks I have been able to develop many existing skills, such as teamwork, collaboration, communication, some computer based operating skills and organisational skills; I have also been able to develop many new skills including how to safely operate a forklift truck.
During my current apprenticeship programme, I have, so far, thoroughly enjoyed my time working with many new colleagues, whether they are new to the business like myself, or have been involved with the business for many years - some up to 40 years! Although I started in September, I firmly believe this is a business I will enjoy working for, for the rest of my career.
The business I am working for, I believe, are very well organised as they are a global business and have many different types of companies throughout the world who all collaborate to assist in the build of our nations most important front line of defence whether that be naval based or aircraft types.
Throughout my apprenticeship so far, I have been able to access many support networks. Any problems I may come across during my time with the business have so far been resolved with a lot of ease as during our induction all of our key support networks and figures are identified and explained to us.
When working towards my qualifications during my apprenticeship, I have been able to receive a huge amount of support from the training provider. I currently attend the training providers site once a week to complete the apprenticeship course. Although this may not seem a lot, it allows me to receive the support I need if needed.
During the completion of my qualification, I have found that any skills I acquire during this time is very helpful and useful in regards to my apprenticeship and the tasks I complete whilst on many different placements. Many of these skills are suitable for all types of roles, so I am able to put my skills to practice to help me daily.
Within the business, in regards to professional networking events, there are many that I am able to get involved in. On the social side of things, there are also many events that take place in which encouragement is given to myself to attend and socialise with many different employees within the business.
Yes
I would recommend any other members of my community to try and get involved with this business as the opportunities that they provide are endless. You are also guaranteed a career for life, providing there are no issues with disciplinary etc. Also the pay received from the business is up there with the best in the country, especially for any apprentices looking for roles.
My most important tip to any persons applying for a role within this company is to create a good persona and allow colleagues to view you in a good way, as well as grabbing as many opportunities that may come your way. The list is endless for opportunities - the sky's the limit!
