  • 1. Please give an overview of what your work experience involved:
  • Members from all different banking branches of HSBC gave us a talk through their roles. These included, but wernt limited to; compliance, HR, global markets, IT and fraud detection. There were also classes for candidates to improve their CV, team communication, public speaking and key skills to working in finance.

  • 2. What training and skills development did you learn from your work experience?
  • I learnt how to structure my CV and tailor it so that it makes me stand out. I developed my public speaking and thinking on my feet skills in the mock interview. I also developed essential connections that will be helpful in the future.

  • 3. To what extent did you enjoy your work experience?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, I would recommend it to anyone who has an interest in working in the financial sector in the future as it groups you with like minded people and you gain a lot of skills that will become useful early on.

  • Very well organised. There were some technical hitches on the zoom call, but everything that could be controlled was perfectly timed and executed very well

  • 5. How much did you learn about the company culture and what it would be like to work there?
  • On the final day the mock interviews were conducted by interns. After the interview we were able to ask the intern questions. This provided me with a greater understanding of the culture by someone who is very much present in the firm. Very interesting.

  • It has increased my interest in working in the financial sector as the atmosphere and connections made were very enjoyable.

  • No, this was an unpaid, virtual work experience.

  • As it was over a zoom call the networking wasn’t as great as it would have been in person. But nevertheless there were chances to speak to employees and other candidates.

  • Very interesting and it will benefit in the future


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
  • Make sure you have work experience and team skills in your CV. Make sure you are ethical in the question test and just relax in the telephone interview.
