We do blocks of 4 month placements in different sectors of the business. Depending on where you go you normally shadow or are given tasks to complete so that you can learn as much as possible about that department before moving to the next. We have one day a week day release for college.
I have learnt a lot during my time in this apprenticeship, including both in the workplace and through college.
I have enjoyed my time in my apprenticeship very much and it is still going very well
it is structured well with what we have to do and complete to complete the apprenticeship. However there have been at times some communication issues and confusion with certain aspects of the program.
We receive a decent amount of support. We are always encouraged to ask any questions and can freely do so without any worry. The only slight issue sometimes is that the reply is not always as clear as you may like which can lead to further questions having to be asked
regarding college we do receive support during lessons and outside of lessons for assignment work. However sometimes when asking a question or for help with something the reply is not always as clear as you may like which can lead to further questions having to be asked
I feel that there is quite a bit of crossover between what we are learning at college and what we are doing in the workplace. This is of course dependant on what areas of the business that you work in, but mostly there is a definite crossover.
There have been lots of offers for extra-curricular activities, both that are set up by our employer and also some that are set up by other apprentices or students. there is an outwards bound week coming up which aims to work on team building skills
Yes
This apprenticeship has been very rewarding so far, I have learnt a lot from working here and have also enjoyed it very much. I would recommend this apprenticeship for anyone who wants to get into an engineering field. The pay is also very reasonable for an apprenticeship with good pay rises throughout the scheme
Do research on company and what they can offer to you regarding different departments. Also it would be beneficial to have a good idea of what area of engineering you would like to go into, this is so that you can make sure you get the best placements for what you are after
