As an aircraft maintenance apprentice, in the first year, you study your modules towards your CAT A license, as well as working towards your apprenticeship qualification. Once you have completed the first year, you will be based at LHR, rotating between the different aircraft maintenance areas of the company. During the final 2 years, you will be working towards achieving your CAT A license and, completing your apprenticeship program.
I have developed my skills for working towards the exams I need to complete in order to achieve my CAT A License. I have also learned all the necessary hand skills during the workshop and hangar phase, whilst training in the first year.
I look forward to coming to work, and I thoroughly enjoy working on the British Airways Apprenticeship program. Every day, something new is learned, and gaining new and more experience as the program advances is exciting.
It is well organised and structured. At the start of the year, you are introduced into the company for 5 weeks at the main company base. You then study away, for the first year whilst you complete the CAT A exams, as well as the apprenticeship qualification. In the 2nd and 3rd year, you are based back at LHR, working on aircraft.
I receive plenty of support from my employer, and they are always there to provide assistance when necessary. The managers are always friendly and welcoming so, if any problems arise, they are more than happy to provide guidance.
I receive all the necessary support needed to complete my apprenticeship program from my training provider when working towards my qualifications. They will also go the extra mile to ensure I receive more than enough assistance required, to achieve my qualifications.
My qualification helps me to perform better in my role by increasing my competence in the sector I am working in. It also helps me understand the importance about safety in the industry that I work in therefore, allowing me to take more care in the actions I take.
As an apprentice at British Airways, there are charity events to take part in when available. Other than that, being a first-year apprentice, I have not encountered many extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work.
Yes
I would recommend this company to a friend because, you always feel welcomed, and part of a team. It is a great opportunity to advance into the aircraft maintenance sector of engineering, as it provides the necessary training needed to become a licensed engineer.
During the application process, be yourself and express your genuine passion for aviation/engineering. Express your past engineering experience, and what you learned during this experience. Ensure to mention how safety is important in engineering, especially when applying for the role of an aircraft maintenance apprentice, working on aircraft.
