As I am in my first year, we are doing our initial training, including our learning and exams for our A license and workshop and hangar tasks.
I have learnt lots of new hand skills and have developed skills I had previously. Being in the workshop massively helped with this. We also had a short period of time in the workshops and hangars at BAs base at Heathrow, which helped significantly.
I am really enjoying my programme, the instructors are amazing and everyone at BA are so lovely and helpful. I have learnt a lot from everyone already, so I can’t wait to get into the 2nd year and do placement in the hangars at BA.
It is very well organised and well structured. There are the occasional feedback day between modules which allow us to decompress before we start the next one, which I find helps a lot. Also, the workshop and hangar phase is timed perfectly with the modules they relate to. The order we are doing the modules in is very helpful as well, because the modules we did at the beginning have helpful information for the later modules.
We receive a lot of support from our employer. We have regular catch ups with them, and there is a meeting twice a week which we can attend if we have any issues . They also come a pond visit us at LRTT frequently, making us still feel like a part of British Airways.
We receive a lot of support from the training provider. The instructors and management are very good at checking in, to see if there are any problems, or any bits we are struggling with.
It helps my understanding of how aircraft work, allowing me to work more effectively. Also, completing the practical work has increased my confidence in my own ability. And, working in the hangars on the training aircraft, will definitely help when we get back to the aircraft at BA, because we’ll already know how to carry out some of the tasks, and understand the documents and paperwork better.
At the moment, because we are training off base, we are limited in the extra-curricular activities. However, when we are back at base there are more to get involved in.
