I am a project controller which means that I monitor the projects at BAE Systems against time, cost and quality. I measure the progress of the schedule and the amount of money which has been spent on a project. I also look at risks and opportunities. This is all so that the projects are carried out to an exceptional standard.
I have learned to be a lot more confident as I have to speak to lots of stakeholders within each project. I also report upwards to prestigious employees meaning that I have a lot of responsibility. On top of this, my overall Microsoft excel skills have improved and my communication skills within the business are now much better than when i first joined the company.
I really enjoy my program to the extent that i look forward to going to work on a Monday which can be quite rare to find. The people who I work with are so friendly and supportive and my daily role is always filled with enjoyable tasks for me to complete.
The programme that i am on is very well structured. I am amazed at how well we are all looked after and supported. It is organised as i am never lost for what to do and there is always somebody there who i can speak to if i am unsure of anything. I cannot fault the programme in any way!
My employer ensures that I am always supported. There is always somebody to talk to and especially with being a new apprentice this really helps. My skills coaches and line manager are just a message/ phone call away which is great when struggling with daily tasks. I also have frequent check- ups with these people to monitor my progress.
I really enjoy having University one day a week. The course is good as it aligns with the work that i do at BAE Systems. I am always supported and the tutors are friendly and helpful if i need and guidance especially with assignments. I would like to go into University a little more as online learning is not ideal.
My learning has quite a substantial correlation to what i do in my role at work. It is great to watch things click at work after learning it in University. It helps to understand why we do what we do within the company. I think University will help me to understand a lot more of my role as time goes on.
Due to coronavirus i don't think that i have yet had chance to experience many company events or social activities which i would love to get involved in. I have enjoyed becoming a STEM ambassador for BAE Systems and going to a few schools for events. I ahve also assisted in some recruitment events.
Yes
I cannot fault the company. The benefits that you get working from the company are incredible. I am paid an amazing wage and i have exceptional training which puts me at a profound advantage from other people in my age category. I will gain experiences that will help me in the future.
The application may be scary but they are just trying to find out who you are as a person. Be confident and really show off your skills. They want to know what experiences you have had which will make you good for the role so don't be shy to tell them what you have done!
