The first year as an apprentice includes 5 days a week at college to become qualified to work at plant, we do BTEC one day a week and the rest is practical work. The last 3 years is one day a week at college and 4 days at plant.
I am developing new skills through college as the lecturers are from a previous engineering background, this really helps when we encounter a problem and they have already experienced this in the real world of work, allowing us to really understand what we can expect at plant.
i really enjoy my program as it is a subject i enjoy and i get paid to do it, i find i can really enjoy the work i do as it includes all the things like problem solving i would do in my spare time.
it is all planed out and ready for us, all the work we do is relevant to the things we will be doing when we get out of college.
we get loads of support and regular visits and emails from our boss which really makes us feel more involved within the company.
our training provider provides us with the support we need and helps push us towards the higher grades within our qualification.
the things we do within the apprenticeship helps us understand and appreciate the basics so we can really understand the fundamentals of the machinery we will work with.
there was a team building exercise at the start of our apprenticeship was the only extra curricular activity we have done so far but it really helped us become better friends and understand each other.
