  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I assist my colleagues with broking practices in the insurance market. Some of my daily tasks involve engaging with underwriters, shadowing colleagues and utilising the range of systems implemented to record our sales, new business opportunities and document filing. I also attend lots of training sessions and webinars to improve my skills.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a range of new skills as Insurance was completely new to me when i started. Regarding existing skills, my organisation / time management has improved majorly due to the fact that I am having to manage work and studies at the same time. Additionally, teamwork is also a skill that has developed as i am continuously working and engaging with my colleagues.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Although it is challenging at times, i do enjoy the programme and the work i do. I joined during the pandemic so the experience was affected quite a bit by this as work changed to remote rather than in person. However, programmes like Microsoft Teams allow you to always be connected to others.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the programme has been very well structured from the beginning. We were provided with a good amount of training that enabled us to perform well in exams that were also structured very well. We are also provided with support anytime we needed it which was great because if you were ever stuck whilst at home, there is someone that can assist with your query.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I've received a lot of support from my employer when it was needed, Teams and emails makes it very easy to communicate with others. It was also easy to ask for support because everyone is very understanding and open to providing help. As a new joiner people understand that you will have a lot of questions.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We do receive a lot of support from the training provider and they are extremely accessible. It is also great that there is more than one person as a point of contact to deal with any queries that we have. Their attitude to supporting us is very open and they do their very best to keep us all on track

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I know a lot more about my role and the industry whilst I've completed my qualifications. They go hand in hand which makes it much easier when I'm having to combine trying to study and also carrying out my day to day job role activities. It certainly helps and a lot of what we learn does go into practice.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a number of professional networking events now that Covid restrictions have lifted. It was a little harder to do this during the pandemic so it was mainly just interactive webinars instead of in person meet. There are a lot of social and sporting clubs available though to those that are looking to interact more with people in the industry which is nice.

  • 9a. Would you recommend WTW to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a great company that employ great people. I enjoy working with all my colleagues and they have been very pleasant and supportive to me since day one. WTW also offer many employee benefits which is very considerate as they offer these to apprentices like myself also. It makes you feel as though you are truly a part of the company.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to WTW?
  • The application process was very smooth and not daunting at all. If you are nervous that is a good thing but don't let it stop you from being wholly yourself during the assessments and interviews. I do not regret applying and am very happy this was the apprenticeship i got and went for.
