At the moment we as a cohort are doing our modules. This includes multiple choice examinations and written word essays. Our learning is very intense as we spend all day studying the pages given to us and then in the evening consolidate the work we have done so we are prepared for the exams.
I have learnt and improved a variety of skills whilst my time at British Airways and LRTT Limited. Some of these include theory skills such as learning new things within the aircraft and practical things on the aircraft. To name a few; i have improved my wire locking and understanding of instructions.
At the moment i am really enjoying my program, everything about it is enjoyable. This ranging from meeting lots of new people who have similar minds of learning and also learning and getting paid to do something i have always wanted to do. I am excited to start more practical work once back at Heathrow.
My whole experience so far has been fairly well organised and structured. Although sometimes can confusing and not well done. For example first week was very hit or miss and spent lots of time waiting around for nothing. Also still waiting on the plan for all the exams despite being 6 months in. Generally though everything else is good.
Good enough amount of support, always come up and see us when doing well. Also if ever need help they are more than willing to make time and help sort our interests out. They always factor in time and thought to our exams and make our situations easier.
Plenty of support when in the classrooms and all the teachers are more than happy to stay behind and offer out one to one help or support if someone is struggling. They always answer our requests so like set questions or homework to complete they will provide the information for us to practice and do well.
I haven’t got the experience to say what it is like in the actual hangar but in the training hangar i felt that the workshop helped me understand each task. For example i struggled with wirelocking in the workshop phase but kept practising and i could do it successfully in the hangar so performed my role well.
Where I currently am in resource group there is nothing which is annoying but also understandable as it is only the apprentices. Although i am not one hundred percent sure if there is anything extra curricular at Heathrow either which is shame as i think sports teams would be enjoyable. There is some charitable work which i can get involved in but something else would be nice too.
Yes
The training and assistance i receive are unmatched and i have developed as a person and as an engineer so much with my time here. There are obviously some things that there are room for improvement in but every company I’ve worked for there will always be small things to improve on.
My advice and tips i would give to others applying at the moment is just be yourself and dont stress over it too much. I wasn’t set on doing an apprenticeship so applied and just did what i could with the whole application process and didn’t stress but that also made me more relaxed and less nervous especially in the interview phases, whereas others were very stressed and struggled to get their points across.
