  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Liaising with clients and the subcontractors, estimating costs and times scales for work/labour. Ensuring that works measured match the payment applications submitted by the Subcontractor. Raising orders and assigning works to be carried out on site by the Subcontractor and producing reports for Clients/Senior Manager as and when required.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Using your initiative daily to approach problems that may occur on site, developed my excel skills. My attention to detail has developed over time to ensure nothing slips through that could potentially backfire on the company, along with my negotiations dealing with Subcontractors and discussing rates in order to raise Orders

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy the programme, balancing work life and University assignments can be difficult but work are always happy to help. I enjoy the day release system as it kind of breaks the week up but it doesn't make the University side too strenuous. No complaints about the programme.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Considering the scheme is relatively new it is well organised, the day of release will change each year so it may effect your work due to how your sites run but overall no complaints. Work are happy to be flexible and there are loads of Apprentices/Trainees within Equans and loads of the more Senior employees were in your position at one point so they understand the need to be flexible and the support required.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Work are happy to provide study days if assignment work stacks up, there are regular reviews held with your TAG advisor to check in on your progress work and study wise. There is a 24/7 support line provided by Work if there are any issues. Equans are happy to push you as much as you like, the further you want to go they are happy to help you along that path.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The University provide the lecture material and all lecturers are contactable at any time via email for any queries, they will provide generic feedback to let you know if you are on the right path with your assignments or on a total tangent but will never provide answers. The University also have student support which can be contacted for any issues/queries you may have in relation to the course. The University also can supply an RICS mentor if there is no one suitable in your work place.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Provides a foundation of knowledge that can be developed on and applied within the workplace. As the course goes on I can link more of my day to day role with the lectures. It's nice to have the course have that connection and provide a better understanding of the day to day role

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There's a variety to get involved with at Equans, plenty of events occuring throughout the year and opportunities if you're wishing to put yourself forward. There is a requirement to do one day of volunteering a year as part of your company contract. I personally haven't looked too much into this though as I already have multiple commitments outside of the work place.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Equans to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Variety of Projects to work on alongside experienced Professionals to develop your career and work your way towards your goal. The employer has hundreds of apprentices so has the support in place to ensure you succeed and do not have any issues. Overall, I can only offer praise to Equans since joining 18months ago.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Equans?
  • There are many opportunities available at Equans no matter what pathway you are on or wish to be on, you just need to put yourself out there and want to be involved. Don't be afraid to get involved, ask questions and make the most of your time on the scheme.
