I work in accounts payable, my role consists of processing payment interfaces and managing current suppliers for the client. My role also involves a lot of reconciliations and bookkeeping which is then accounted automatically through the system. I work in a small team distributing the processes each day to manage demand.
I have developed vital accounting knowledge in advanced bookkeeping and personal tax. I have also developed my team work and co - ordination skills over the past 3 years. I have learnt a lot around management accounting and i am learning more each week and building up my accounting knowledge, this assists in my studies.
I really enjoy my programme, it involves alot of hard work however i have managed to climb up in positions within the business. The only downside is the rules on the apprenticeship around being enrolled for at least 365 days before sitting the last exam. Equans approach is also excellent.
My programme is structured well so that i can complete it at my own speed as well as getting well needed rest through the year. The programme also gives me the opportunity to take on extra training if needed or taken up optionally. This gives you alot of flexibility around work.
the employers is very supportive. Firstly we are supported by everyone so that we can take time off to attend lessons on a weekly basis. They also provide us with further time around exams to get some revision in. This support is critical to relieving stress in work and learning.
The training provider has alot of content to go through and they provide nearly 24/7 support whether this be in class or outside of class hours when we are revising. There is always someone to assist when you are stuck or have a query regarding the course or specific lesson.
This all varies as some of my courses are relevant to the wider business and potential future roles. However when the content relates to the present it really helps i have gained a permanent contract within my work which has given me more to succeed and have the safety around employment.
Equans organise alot of extra curricular activities ranging from work evenings out, to volunteering as well as specific events for networking or christmas parties. There are alot of occasional professional events held for changes to the wider business or to provide opportunities across the business to all staff in different areas.
Yes
I have done nothing but succeed in both my personal life since joining Equans, It has really helped me mature and create a successful career and life for my self. There are unlimited opportunities to progress yourself and develop your skills to higher held positions and take on extra responsibilities.
When taking on a higher apprenticeship you should consider the work that needs to be put in to both your day job and your additional learning, When applying for finance jobs try to learn about core principles and ideas as it helps in the interview and when you start in the role.
