  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work with care experienced young people to transitions in to adult hood. Supporting them to build independence skills, as well as supporting there emotional wellbeing and resilience. I also support young people to make community links and build family relationships where appropriate.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been able to attend a number of new training opportunities both internally and externally. I have become more confident in my practice. I have also started to learn how to write assessments.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy the social work apprenticeship because it has allowed me to gain knowledge about theory and interventions I was already using. It has also given me a lot more confidence.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Overall the apprenticeship has been well organinsed. There was a couple of days in which tutors were double booked and unable to teach us.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manger is also my mentor. She is extremely supportive and allows me to take time to write my assignments and complete shadowing opportunities.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Support from MMU has been brill. If I have ever struggled with and assignment the tutors have been on hand to help. They also offer excellent study skills training to help with academic writing. My skills coach has been fantastic and an excellent source of support.

  • It has enabled me to build on my confidence and given me the knowledge to develop my practice.

  • Yes

  • I have a very supportive manager who supports my professional development.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council?
  • Just do it. You won't regret it! It seems very scary at first, but there is so much support from MMU to help you train and get your qualification.
