  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I wake up extremely early for work, the shift is 12 hours long and we start at 6 o'clock respective if it is days or nights. The shifts are 7 on 7 off, and the work will change depending if it is production or a weekend work (scheduled maintenance)

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • A lot of the apprenticeship has been about preparing us for the working environment, so I have spend the majority of the apprenticeship learning these skills. in the fourth year there is a higher focus on a technical perspective and I have definitely improved my technical understanding throughout this year through hands on experience and through training courses

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Some days I do enjoy the job, there is a lot to learn which is nice and now we are in our correct long term working place I feel I have properly developed and feel a functioning member of the team, However this workplace is very political and sometimes this can make the entire situation feel abrasive, as apprentices we seem to be given a 'short straw' in numerous situations

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The apprenticeship has been through different times during my 4 years. and at no point throughout can i say i felt the course felt organized, at most it felt like organized chaos. Certain members of staff have far to more power and are incapable. It feels as if its being made up as it goes along

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In the fourth year of my apprenticeship i feel part of a workforce and am finally getting support from colleagues, However from a company perspective i have never felt supported by management, for example in some negative situations during my apprenticeship i never felt as if i had the support of management, this was sad to realize but also a reality check of the business, we are all replaceable

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • during my training you work with a lot of different training advisors from the college, and obviously this comes with extremely different levels of support and aide. Some members of staff are really nice and do try but are unfortunately genuinely curious and then there are some which just feel as if they're collecting paychecks and don't care

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • In all honesty i don't feel the qualification is relevant to the job i do, however i do respect the qualification for multiple reasons. Most importantly being something i can use in the future to show that education frame that i can use to expand on, i feel slightly vulnerable having only a L3 qualification but this is still a lot better than nothing

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I tried to arrange some in the first year but as previously mentioned there is very little support from management, it was lazily dismissed by senior management in PT-36 which made me feel like i had wasted a lot of time and effort especially when i felt my ideas could aide the company. This day was also a realty check for what life was like in the workplace

  • 9a. Would you recommend BMW Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is an easy job, which is payed a lot of money, with not much stress. However in the long term i think the job can cause a lot of mental health issues so i would make my friends aware of this. All in all though it feels a okay package

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • I naturally find interviews quite easy, but obviously this is a massive factor. Show keenness, dress smart and smile. the application for the job is flawed and a lot of people miss out through this but just focus and properly proof read all your answers, BMW wont change but you can use it as a tool.
