Assist in engineering maintenance tasks on the aircraft ranging from small scheduled tasks to the unscheduled tasks which need a lot of investigation. Every shift you are gaining Vital experience from the different areas you visit during 6 month rotations around base and terminals. Additionally you’ll be working on your NVQ levels 2 and 3 followed by studying for your modules.
I have developed many skills and knowledge that I didn’t have at the start and after I finished the training and passed my exams I felt I could really understand what I was doing and why. I could also be more of an asset to the team with the experience from the training college and working on the aircraft itself
I have thoroughly enjoyed the program as it has taught me the theory side of the apprenticeship and then that is solidified with practical experience. The quality of the different work areas is second to none and you learn a lot from the people you work with. This all helped me to pass my NVQ and overall apprenticeship.
I am very impressed by the apprenticeship management team at BA. The past couple of years haven’t been easy due to Covid and the makers did an amazing job of helping us get through it by supporting us all the way and helping in anyway they could whilst providing all the opportunities for us
I receive a lot of support from my employers when I ask for help. This could be replying to emails quickly or answering urgent questions over the phone. So management are easily contactable. During the pandemic my employer was transparent with what was happening with the apprenticeship and what we needed to during our time. They would take feedback really well when I came to improving things.
My training provider proved all the necessary courses to help me pass the various modules, even if you failed one they would book you onto a remedial course to try and go over the certain areas that you weren’t to sure on. Instructors and assessors were easily contactable when help was needed.
I feel like it massively helps me i my role as I know more about the aircraft and it’s various systems. I use my knowledge day to day when it comes to problem solving as well as the manuals. I feel like having all the necessary knowledge helps me to be more of an asset to the team.
There are professional events such as a promotional exercise to recruit new apprentices which tells them about the apprenticeship from current apprentices and the recruits get to ask any questions they have about it. These events could take place over zoom or teams or even jobs fairs. Even during the pandemic there was plenty of recruitment talks taking place.
Yes
I have indeed recommended the apprenticeship to friends as it gave me a brilliant experience and has taught me many things from how aircraft work to its intricate systems and how to be a bette engineer. The people I have worked with have been a really big help when it comes to me applying for my license.
If you are going to consider applying then I would definitely have to have some sort of interest in engineering. But I would definitely recommend doing some sort of engineering course before taking on the apprenticeship as it will help you to better understand some of the tougher modules that you will have to sit.
