  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a funeral arranger- I take part in funeral arrangements, Looking after the deceased's in the chapel of rest. I am also sometimes required to help out with back of house duty's, sometimes to help out on funerals if needed. My role can be very demanding but equally rewarding.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed a lot of skills throughout my time at the Coop, before I started I had no experience in funeral care. Throughout my three years at the coop I would say I am not a very confident funeral arranger and I could also step into other roles with a brief knowledge if needed.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my work, its a very rewarding job. With regards to my apprenticeship some parts of it I really enjoyed such as the woodland burials, repatriation etc. Other parts of it I found very boring and struggled to enjoy such as the legal side of things. I would recommend people done it for the experience.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I felt my tutor was very well organised, she was always on hand to help me and nothing was a problem. She explained everything to me and in lots of detail. I did however feel like some of the work was repetitive and not very interesting, I found this made me not want to do it even though I knew it needed completed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I found that sometimes my workload out weighed my apprenticeship and there wasn't enough hours in the working day to complete my apprenticeship work. So a lot of the time I was doing work from home or coming into the office early to catch up on my apprenticeship work.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I found my tutor was 100 % supportive, she was always on hand to answer text or emails and always came back to me to double check I understand everything. I found her very approachable and really wanted me to do well. I really appreciated the support throughout the process. She also would continually check I was ok and I was being supported in all aspects.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that even though I have found parts of the apprenticeship very interesting, I feel I have learned much more doing practical things in the branch and shadowing colleges. I feel I have learned more on the apprenticeship with regards to the legal and finance side of things and the particulars.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No we have no extra curricular activities at my work place. However we do often like to do team building activities such as quad biking, walks etc etc . We also often do community activities as a team such as bake sales and coffee mornings and anything we can get involved in.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • The Co-op has supplied me with very good training and it is always up to date. The team I work with are fantastic and the wider team is equally fantastic. I also feel that working for a large company is good, we are very fortunate we have access to any supplies or equipment we need. I would happily recommend working for the Co-op to a friend.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?
  • I would tell anyone applying to the Co-op to be open and honest, the Co-op is all about equal opportunities. I would also recommend that they research the Co-op and they also research the Co-ops 4 core values, these are very important and I was asked about them on interview.
