  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Overview of what’s involved in a day to day basis revolves around daily servicing maintenance activities, clearing of defective entry logs which entail replacement of components or inspections of components. Furthermore day to day basis involves trouble shooting to find possible solutions into rectifying issues whether they are planned or unplanned maintenance activities.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I would say overall I have developed new and progressed existing skills with practice and experience involved with aircraft maintenance activities. New skills learned from experienced engineers including various maintenance activities encountered. I have developed my skills further by putting my training into practice by being more hands on and with constant development when tackling new tasks.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I would say I am enjoying the programme very much as no day is the exact same with all the various maintenance activities that I am exposed to making it very interesting and helping my understanding as an engineer. Furthermore challenging jobs excite me as there are a lot of possible solutions/routes that could be taken to solve the issue making it more enjoyable to be a part of or observe.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I’d say the programme is very organised and structured well that involves the theory based aspects with the practical side making it not only enjoyable but assist in being able to understand and apply that knowledge gained in the real world to rectify defects or solve possible encountered problems on aircraft.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I would say I have received as much support as possible and if not more whether it’s support in work or in home life. The support was able to progress my learning including ease my mind and when submitting documents for assessment/deadlines.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The training provider was able to support me well throughout my apprenticeship providing guidance and feedback to improve on to develop my knowledge and skills as an engineer. Furthermore the support given was adequate for me in being able to work through my apprenticeship and gain my qualifications successfully.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The course/apprenticeship is well structured so that it is not purely focused on theory but allows the theory based element to be input into practical skills that may be put into practice in maintenance activities encountered. The course structure assisted in me being able to follow through methodical approach’s to tackle difficult or intricate activities whilst following the appropriate procedures to ensure safe working practices and ensure it is done correctly.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are activities available but are limited including time sensitive meaning can only join on certain days due to availability and number of people available. This is organised through personal means and solely depends on the right time and place to conduct football games and try e availability of people to take part.

  • 9a. Would you recommend British Airways to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Not only is the company a prestige company to work for but is an ever growing company making work exciting with new challenges that are beneficial to engineers. Also with the country coming out of the pandemic the customers feel more at ease flying with a trusted airline that delivers great service and endless possibility’s of routes to explore.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
  • Don’t be hesitant, be open to the idea of traveling and working hard for a great company as the benefits are far greater than the negatives as you’re able to develop as an engineer but as well as a person due to the amount of support and career development paths in place to meet your goals.
