My work experience involved taking a deeper look into the world of banking beyond just the surface level. This included looking at the different parts of a bank and how different departments interact in order to make up the HSBC bank. eg. M&A.
As part of the work experience we did a practise interview. This was a good way to learn how to present yourself in front of an employer. This was helpful in building my confidence.
I enjoyed it a lot. I believe anyone that truly has a passion and interest in that industry beyond just the monetary incentive, will enjoy this programme thoroughly.
The work experience was well organised. There was a tight timetable which was rigorous and was stuck to pretty much throughout the whole week.
I learnt a lot about the company culture. One of the main parts of the week was looking at the ethos of HSBC and what it is like to work for the bank.
I was already very interested in the world of banking and finance before the work experience. As a result for me the work experience was not that helpful in directing me as I already wanted to pursue a career in the industry.
I was not paid or reimbursed expenses.
There were many opportunities to network. During the week we met many HSBC employees and listened to their stories and experiences at the bank. Those were all networking opportunities with many sharing their linkedin.
Yes
It is a great opportunity for one to network and find out what banking really is about. Many people have presumptions about the industry, but this work experience is going to give you the reality.
Make sure to speak with passion and confidence in the interview. That is a big part of the ethos at HSBC.
