Day to day my role covers quite a lot of different things, no day is ever the same. Often I'm undertaking research and analysis of Sage sites as well as other sites to see where Sage could improve, this leads into performing tests on the Sage sites to see if we can raise sales conversions. As well as this, I have online lessons with the college (usually every other week) and I also do a lot of off the job training to support me in my role, such as Linked In courses on ecommerce trends, Google Analytics etc.
I've definitely improved on my presentation skills as well as learning how to use a lot of job-specific software. In turn, this has helped increase my confidence levels and helped me to feel more capable in my role, despite still being at 'apprentice level'. It's also been great to experience booking meetings for stakeholders, as this is something I hadn't done in my previous job.
I thoroughly enjoy the programme. I especially enjoy it as it is quite different to my actual job role, so doing the lessons and homework tasks is a nice change and feels like a really valuable opportunity to learn about Digital Marketing in the broader sense, whereas my role is a bit more specialised/specific.
The programme is structured really well. It is clearly split into two modules with a set of lessons for each, which usually take place every other week for two hours. After each module your exam is booked and completed before the start of the next module. There is also a bit of a break in between starting your next module, so it doesn't feel overwhelming or unmanageable.
We get a lot of help and support from Sage. This comes in various forms, from your manager (who knows your study plan and what you have to achieve), to your wider team, all the way to the onboarding and recruitment teams who have been there from the start. Everyone is very helpful, patient and generous with their time.
Our tutor is always more than happy to answer any questions we have and always makes sure we understand everything during our lessons. She replies to emails very quickly and is also available for any extra meetings if you need clarification with anything or have any concerns. It really helps to have all the lesson slides sent to us afterwards as well.
I think the qualification is a much broader look at Digital Marketing than what I actually do as a job role, but I enjoy that aspect of it as it is great to learn about the wider subject as well as learning about the specific role from my employer. The course has shown me just how many different avenues you can take within Digital Marketing, which is great to know.
So far I have been able to take part in the Sage Foundation scheme, where you can select from a huge list of charitable and/or community organisations to go along and help out. You get 5 days a year to do activities like this and it is really fun and worthwhile. Other than that, my team try to have little events like meals out together to boost morale and get to know any new members of the team.
Yes
I would thoroughly recommend Sage to a friend (and I have). I think the company culture is great and has fully exceeded my expectations. I was scared that working in such a large, corporate organisation might be very high pressured and intense, but it hasn't been like that at all. Sage make me feel like I matter, which is really important as an employee.
I would advise applicants to be themselves. Obviously be professional but don't be afraid to show your sense of humour and personality as this sets you apart from other people and can make all the difference to your interview process. Try your best to relax and have fun too.
