  • Either block-release at college studying towards an HNC in electrical engineering or working from home, designing, estimating and quoting new electrical connections for customers.

  • Yes. I had no prior experience within the electrical side of engineering.

  • Greatly, I have learnt a large amount in my first 6 months of employment.

  • Extremely well structured, SSE have been running this programme for a number of years and it really shows.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am supported in every way. Whether that be with extra curricular support from my company with my college work, or help with tasks I complete for the actual job, my manager is always happy to help.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • A lot. The tutors have been great and are happy to go over areas that I haven't completely understood. There is also many ways to access helpful materials on their website.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Learning about electrical principles at college has really helped me understand my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We are given lots of time to socialise when away from home at college and also provided with expenses to plan networking events.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • This has been the best decision I have made to switch careers, into a thriving company in the ever growing energy sector.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to SSE?
  • Absolutely go for it, this is a great career for life, with a great salary when qualified.
