  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Our role as a Machine Technician will be to look after the application lines keeping it running during the week and completing maintenance activities on the weekend or where needed. This role is a new role and not the one that we originally though that we were applying for.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. My skills have developed vastly through experiencing different areas which require different skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The job and people are easy to get one with however the organization is poorly dealt with which puts more stress onto the job.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Not very well, There is no communication or structure to the new role we are placed in and any decisions that are made are last minute with little communication. There was not a good structure with the number of apprentices hired, this lead to there being no placed within the business for us to go, and in turn limited out learning.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • If we go to the apprentice school with any query or concerns they may look into them however will believe and dismiss your thoughts if someone says another opinion. Most of the time we need to go to the workplace about any concerns and they may get dealt with quicker.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Out training provider don't provide us with competent trainers for certain subjects where a specialist is needed. This has lead to certain units being self taught and not to the required standards. When we go to them with concerns on our education they will be dismissed and we are told that this is just the way it is.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • A lot of the qualification in what we are completing is irrelevant to out end role. The first year is probably the only relevant training. The Level 3 course work has not been needed outside the collage lessons.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a charity champions that we can be involved in. Other than that there is nothing. Some apprentices make up there own events and eventually may join with some on the maintenance associated once working with them full time.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BMW Group to a friend?
  • No


  • 9b. Why?
  • Lack of communication, and organization. The job at the end can be good but to get there it just feels like politics and is a very stressful environment.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • Be prepared to do a lot of self learning and not receive much help.
