As an Apprentice , My role isn't static and I rotate places every month. I meet new people and learn new things , everyday is a new day. The jobs that are on offer could go from manual labour on the production line to project designing in the offices. In my first year i haven't done any placements in the offices , All my placements so far have been in production. So far i've been to cutting , prep and covering. I've learnt skills such as hide marking , sorting , sewing , covering and laminating. Being on this apprentice has also improved my communcation and social skills since i have to speak to a lot of different people. I am a lot more confident now than i was before the apprenticeship. On days that i'm not at work im at college. At college im learning the skills of an upholster. I get set small projects every week and i have to complete them. These projects are usually making cushions or chairs.
Before starting my apprentice i knew nothing about sewing. After a few months into my apprenticeship I have learnt how to hand sew and how to use a sewing machine. College teaches me how to sew seams and create cushions. At work I've learnt many skills in manufacturing. i've learnt how to use different machinery and how to use different tools.
This apprenticeship isn't for everyone, Sometimes the placements can be repetitive and boring. It really depends on where you are placed. some placements can be exiting and interesting. Other days you get put onto laminating and watch parts slowly move all day. At the end of a day it is a job but it could be more exiting in some areas
Isn't that well structured in work and college. If feels like im going in blind every week. There was a structured plan at the begging of the year but it seems like they change it every month and this defeats the point of a plan. However there is a lot of support around if you ask.
I do get a lot of support from my employer. They are very helpful and i can go to them when I'm having a troubled time. From my mentor on the other hand i haven't spoken or had a meeting with him in 6 months. The Occupation Health for rolls-royce is absolutely horrible. They never listen to you and don't solve any problems you have
Average support
My qualification and the training provider don't really relate with each other.
Not that i've heard off
No
I don't think they would enjoy it since it's pretty stressful at sometimes
Short term , it's gonna be stressful and boring . long term it's going to give you a full-time career
