It involved a variety of different workshops where I got to both ask questions and contribute to group tasks. I was able to practise my public speaking skills through presenting what my group had discussed. We got to draft up legislation and deal with a case which is similar to what will be done in the near future.
I built on my communication skills by working with trainee solicitors and other students at the same level as me. We all had to discuss different matters which we may face in our law careers such as contracts, potential legislation which may need to be implemented and doing debates by discussing arguments.
I enjoyed my work experience very much. I would recommend it to anybody who is considering a career in Law or if Law is a certain career path. I was able to build on all my existing skills and gained new problem solving skills through the variety of different tasks undertaken.
It was very well organised. The meetings ran very smoothly from session to session and always ran on time. The people who were presenting the sessions were well informed and knew the schedule for the time frame given. The Forage site made it easy to attend all meeting and access the materials needed.
I learned how it is a friendly atmosphere where it is a safe environment to learn. All the Pinsent Masons workers seemed genuine about their fabulous experiences at the firm and were keen to always learn more. It made me start to already consider apply for a VAC Scheme there and for my trainee programme.
I already knew that I wanted to study Law at University. However, the work experience showed me how Law is definitely the career for me after University. The tasks during the work experience programme proved to me that Law is where my skill set lie and how I will thrive in a Law environment.
I was not paid on this experience.
There was many opportunities given to meet many different people at different stages of their Law careers. There was a chance to meet other students with similar academic aims to me as well as solicitors who have went through the same process I am currently going through now. The trainee solicitors had a wealth of experience they shared with the students to ease any nerves and make us more confident.
Yes
It was the best work experience I have been on. I have attended a few open days with solicitors however none were as informative as Pinsent Masons Course. The ability to ask a question at any given point and also join in on group discussions truly challenged me in new ways.
To make sure to be very clear with your skill set. Pinsent Masons are looking for people who are both academically smart but also have other qualities to bring. They encourage bold solicitors who are desperate to learn at any given moment and are great in a team which is highlighted in their already existing staff.
