  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My overall job role is to find people their perfect holiday and bring the holiday to life. We mainly do sales in travel and foreign currency but also do admin work with tickets and amendments to holidays. This involves a lot of computer work and a lot of work by using the phones to speak to suppliers.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots of new skills as I had never studied travel before so didn’t have any previous knowledge about travel and tourism. This includes destinations, different types of fares, currencies and different types of customers. It is also help me improve my knowledge on customer service and develop those skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I fully enjoyed completing the apprenticeship and would recommend a Tui apprenticeship to anyone that has travel experience or doesn’t have any travel experience at all. I think it is the perfect way to fully understand travel from perspective of the travel industry as a whole. The work we was given to complete was also fun.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is well structured as we had journeys which covered each section. It was very organised, and I felt supported all the way by my assessor who was always there on teams. We were also given training to complete which helped with the work that was set and we were also given sources of information which helped us understand the work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I did not receive much support from my manager in my store as I wasn’t given the appropriate amount of time off the shopfloor to complete the work that was given to me. I had to complete most of the work on the shopfloor in between customers which was not practical.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification is improved my role greatly as I’ve now fully understand the travel industry as a whole and have learnt things I wouldn’t have previously by just completing the day-to-day job. It also prepared me for different enquiries with customers as I had the previous knowledge of what supplies to use.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At work we have training which is completed out of the store it could be an apprentice day or could be a day out learning about different supplies for use and their products. This could be Disney, holiday extras or even the Tui brand. I fully enjoyed doing these extracurricular activities and feel this help my role.

  • 9a. Would you recommend TUI UK & Ireland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would fully recommend Tui as a holiday company to work for, they are very fair, trustworthy and have the best interest of you at heart. They are the best company I’ve worked for and feel everyone would benefit working for them. They have treated staff very well with extra benefits for performance and rewards and recognition on a daily basis.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TUI UK & Ireland?
  • A tip I would have to give anyone applying for Tui is to be yourself as that’s really what sells yourself. It doesn’t matter about what is on pen and paper it matters about your personality if you are in a customer facing role like me. I will definitely look for a TUI apprenticeship too, if you are looking to get into the travel industry.
