My role and responsibilities differ depending on which week of the monthly reporting cycle we are currently in; i create slide decks, manage mailboxes, attend supplier calls, manage documentation, and play a part in the project change processes. I work with a range of people internally and externally and have access to range of exciting development opportunities.
BAE are also driving continuous development so as well as my degree course they also allow me to take on additional training courses. These vary from software's we use to log and control labour hours within the project as well as extending knowledge and skills within Excel and PowerPoint.
As a requirment of my scehem, we have to roateat around the buisness evrry year so that we are able to get an insight to projects across the whole sector. Some projects are smaller and less value so you can see the whole lifecycle and have more responsibilities whereas some are large and complex and you work more around reporting. This change keeps it interesting. Although i would like to see more apprentice interaction within work and not just outside.
BAE provide support for everyone and any situatio, including resource groups that you can join for contact with people like you. As mentioned, there is always continuous training following your in depth induction. Mangers understand the importance of our qualifications and are always happy to provide support or help if needed.
Support is always there if needed and is reminder throughout 12 week learner reviews and it is encouraged to use the support available whoever that is given from. Even throughout inductions they repeatedly tell you where help is available and early careers managers do everything to ensure you are happy at work. Flexi time is also available so encourage a good level of work life balance between apprentices and other employees.
Support from our training provider is not as good as it is with our employee, however this differs depending on the lecturer. Some lecturers can be dismissive to feedback and are less inclined to help because we are not solely focused on getting a degree, but working at the same time.
As time goes on and we learn more and more theory, we are able to take on more work and responsibility within our placement which not only helps develop ourselves but managers are able to delegate to us and focus on other things. Working whilst learning helps you to put learning into practice.
More recently, BAE apprentices and graduates have started a range of clubs and activities that you can take part in if you wish. Many cohorts also plan a 'payday' event or activities that they can go along to in order to meet up with people (as hybrid working is still in place) and network.
Yes
I would recommend BAE Systems to a friend due to the ongoing support they provide, the opportunities that arise when you are in position and the chance to network at events and STEM. The benefits they offer are really good including the pension, healthcare plan and the shares scheme which all employees have access to.
Be yourself! But prepare for the interview, be interested in what BAE do and why they do it. Try to put as much detail in as you can when applying for the job and answer all questions given. The process can often be a long one so do not get disheartened if you do not hear anything for a while.
