  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The role as an apprentice is limited in its training on a day to day bases, although management does organize special training which involves engineering principles, outside of this there is no 0 engineering experience to be gained usually. A placement in an engineering based department is rare and short lived. However if you ask you should be given the opportunity to do more engineering based work due to the kindness and support of management (your managers not overall apprentice heads). Your department will most likely have no engineering work to be done. It is not engineering based training. There is a lot of all sorts of basic manufacture work. All in all in comparison to other places due to the lack of structure the company is limited in what you do day to day, if you do not like doing little Rolls Royce motorcars is not the place to be. The apprentice program is being completely carried by management (your managers not overall apprentice heads) which is an extremely strong point. The degree apprenticeship program needs a complete overhaul.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently studying a degree and have learnt a lot of non relevant manufacturing skills. There is some relevant manufacturing skills that have been learnt, but in terms of engineering skills it is basic and even when given the opportunity to learn such skills the lack of structure makes it difficult however due to the special safety training provided abroad etc there has been a lot of skills learnt and structure is improving hence the high score.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • To enjoy any program you must enjoy it in all aspects, this is very difficult with the Rolls-Royce degree apprenticeship. Firstly due to the job having 0 structure, at the start of the apprenticeship there were times in which i hadn't an idea of where to go or what to do. The apprenticeship scheme in itself has zero overall structure from the top down. At other companies I worked at I experienced better solid training structure for job roles that didn't even require it, the degree apprenticeship scheme needs a complete overhaul. The local area also is very expensive, this is one aspect an apprentice must take into account, in the first year I was living paycheck to paycheck and with rising costs of living one might have to reconsider unless living with parents etc. I have experienced racism in the local area also, although non violent, it does make it less enjoyable and makes living here feel less safe, one thing to consider. Although this is extremely rare and everyone else has been extremely lovely. The management (area managers) is extremely kind and nice and supporting which is the only reason i have given this three stars.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Extremely poorly organized, in every aspect you could think of any structure is bespokely given by management. There is kind of a structure being implemented, even this is not enough compared to other companies, if you challenges and showcasing your networking abilities, this is the only way you will find structure.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive lots of support now, but before there was little from the apprenticeship team, only by management. Management offers lots of support anything you could ask for.

  • Management does help a lot, actual "workers" and supervisors might not even know you are doing a degree.

  • Completely not relevant whats so ever. This is not an engineering based role yet.

  • There are but i was not made aware.

  • No


  • 9b. Why?
  • Until structure is improved and the housing challenges are tackled and the job is engineering based then no.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • Investigate the negatives and positives properly.
