Currently my role involves me reporting to my placement manager, and carrying out tasks relevant to the Planning department. I will attend meetings and contribute, whilst taking away relevant tasks. I am included in multiple different projects with different departments which allow me to expand my knowledge within the business.
Since starting the apprenticeship, I have gained multiple skills whilst also improving skills that I currently have. Skills have been picked up at both College and within the workplace. Examples of this include welding, bench fitting, engineering drawing. Through work I have improved my communication skills, my confidence and other manual working skills.
I thoroughly enjoy the programme due to the variety of work that is involved. At college we cover a lot of generalised engineering content and extra skills which are fun. And at work I am able to carry out plenty of different tasks which keep it enjoyable. Another benefit to the programme is being able to move around different departments.
The programme structure has varied since starting the apprenticeship. The beginning of the apprenticeship wasn't the best and could be seen as confusing at some times with no end goal. But since moving onto the HNC it has become a bit more structured and there are more aims and objectives to hit.
I am able to get support from multiple people within the business. I can go to my line manager, my placement manager or even the apprentice coach. We have monthly meetings where we can feedback to managers, apprentice coaches and this can be used to improve the future apprenticeships. X
When it comes to the qualifications, I am able to get plenty of support. If I have any questions regarding the college work, I am able to send emails to the lecturers and they will reply with helpful feedback. We hold formative feedback sessions to go over the college work before we submit it.
My qualification with Chichester College has helped me at my work place. Skills such as engineering drawings have allowed me to look at part drawings at work, and bench fitting skills have allowed me to modify tools and jigs at work. The majority of subjects within the course are relevant.
Yes there are multiple social events and extra curricular events in place. There are different events for different people, some more social, some more sporty. Examples of extra curricular activities include football, go karting, golf. There are other opportunities to go outside of work such as helping out at school events.
Yes
The experience is good and there is a lot to benefit from. The pay is good, the people are nice and there are a lot of opportunities within the business due to the vast variety of jobs. There are so many departments that anyone can find a job that is suited to them.
The main tip I would give is to prepare yourself for the interview as it is quite intense and has a lot involved. Research the company and ensure you have some basic knowledge on the product. Think outside the box and be confident, working well in a team helps a lot as well.
