within my current placement, I attend a team meeting every morning which involves an update of open topics. I, myself am involved in optimization topics that vary from minor improvements to larger process changes. aswel as this I am currently in involved in personal development topics as a way of steering into a job role once the apprentiship comes to an end.
I have learnt various skills during my time on the apprenticeship such as planning projects and prioritizing work, as well as this there are various systems that I have had training within to use daily. I have been working on developing skills that are more tailored to the job role I am working towards.
In general, I have enjoyed the apprenticeship as at college we are able to study interesting engineering topics such as welding and machining and at work we have the ability of working within a professional environment, with the ability of developing those skills we learn at college and learning new ones.
at the begining of the apprenticeship it was a bit messy with structure changes, and due to having the majority of the week at college, we didn't really know what was happening at work, recently it has been more organised and from personal experience I have been able to take on the responsibility of managing my own development and placements.
at the start of the apprenticeship, due to structure changes and covid-19, the support was rather slim whereas recently due to new coaches stepping up, support for apprentices has improved. due to the better support from apprentice coaches, us as apprentices have more of a say in how the apprenticeship works and improved development schemes.
when at college support from lecturers differe from one to another, with some being not helpful and sometimes hindering progress on assignments, often deviating from the subject at hand, whereas some lecturers are alot more helpful, often going out of their way to help rather than just doing their job.
what we learn at college such as welding and machining doesn't really benefit the role that I am currently doing at work or those I am striving towards, but due to it being mechanical engineering, it lays the foundation knowledge that is required in various job roles around the workplace.
around the workplace there are many events that are available to join, these are sometimes department specific roles but there are other activities that are available such as golf, go karting and football. these events are available to any member of the business and can be use as a good source of networking.
Yes
I feel that the experience that I have had at rolls Royce has been positive as it has allowed me to develop my skills professionally while allowing myself to mature from a college student into a full time role in a professional workplace. The work that is done is interesting and the apprentice pay is above that of other workplaces.
I would advise to anyone wanting to apply as an apprentice at Rolls-Royce motor cars to thoroughly research the history of the workplace to get good product knowledge as to not focus on this while working. confidence is also vital when carrying out business and the interview process as this will make you stand out above others.
