My role is control technician apprentice - day-to-day I report to my maintenance placement department to check-in and plan my day based on admin work, meetings, appointed tasks general/maintenance and project work. My objective is to aid production efficiency through maintenance tasks which make-up 80% of my work.
The skills learnt and developed are recorded in a Placement Document which must be signed by senior managers to approve of satisfactory work and your development. Skills include networking and communication, problem solving, team working and hand-on-job skills.
I enjoy my programme immensely, I show my enthusiastic attitude throughout the day and make sure to connect with people. To me it is important to complete each day with satisfaction and have fun to avoid work related stress.
The intention to be organised and structures is present and apprentices must take responsibility to structure/organise their own time in later years of the programme. However, the following Controls Technician Programme requires improvement in structure as not all resources are available apprentices to practice/learn controls.
I receive sufficient support to complete the programme and excel, I would benefit from further support specific to my learning of controls.
In the third year of the programme, there is less support as studying at this level requires much more independent working compared to first/second year. However, enough support is given to pass.
The qualification is beneficial however, is not as controls related as expected, the programming, PLC and electronic units definitely help with knowledge.
We have in-house charities one of which I am doing a sponsored run for, emphasis was given on professional networking and envelopment.
