  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my first few months as Apprentice Surveyor at Savills, my day to day consists of supporting my line manger, and the wider team. This can include emailing clients, visiting sites, help to update reports, reading leases to find certain information required. Basically anything that comes up that would be beneficial to gain some basic initial experience in.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As I am starting an apprenticeship in a new field, of course I am learning new skills. I am learning to read legally binding contracts and leases, to use job specific software, and generally everything about an industry that is quite foreign to me. But equally I am developing my interpersonal skills and personal qualities as well, given that it is a very social role.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The Apprenticeship programme is very enjoyable. As stated before, I am learning new skills and building on ones I already posses, meeting lots of new people and working at a company that cares about employee health and wellbeing. On top of that the support is great and I am working towards gaining a degree.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured and organised. On arrival there are relevant inductions made and a few short online training courses provided like online and workplace awareness. Your path is highlighted and support is laid out in order to help you get the end results you are aiming for

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Great support is provided by the company which starts at your team, they will support you fully and are generally all ears if you need help with anything or have any questions. If they're busy or you feel like you can't ask there is also online support and people at the other end of email addresses that are always available to access or communicate with. So there are multiple streams of support, in person and or online.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have been provided with all the support I need so far on my course. The university has multiple streams of support as well, all online but your tutors and other student supporters are always happy to help and answer questions. Also the support from fellow students has been great.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The course I am doing has provided me with wider knowledge about the role I will eventually grow into and has given me an insight into how the role will progress as the years pass and experience is gained. I definitely know more now about the role and industry than I did before.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are lots of extra curricular activities at Savills. I believe there are a few sports activities such as net ball and rugby. But there are plenty of social meet ups and professional networking events. Some include meals and drinks and some are conferences in other parts of the UK, providing the opportunity to network with colleagues that work in different regions.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are very supporting of your goals, career and education all in equal measures. They have an incredible work environment and culture and it is a very sociable place to work. Also there are different opportunities all the time for going on courses and taking classes to better your career.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills?
  • My advice would be to get some work experience under your belt, relevant or not. Show that you're keen to work hard and have the right mind set. Maybe apply for work experience AT Savills to show your passion for the company and through that you may gain some contacts as well that may come in handy when applying for a job afterwards.
