  • I am currently in training down in Portsmouth to be a Track Maintenance Technician.

  • On this course you learn many new skills including leadership and training for your chosen discipline

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It's been interesting to live away from home and meet new people from accross the UK. Learning about the oppurtunites available to us after the apprenticeship and what we will be doing in the 2nd and 3rd years

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Network Rail?
  • While down in Portsmouth you get to visit your assigned depot to see what they want from you and why the picked you.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • In the first year you will do a Level 2 NVQ, a BTEC Level 3 Subsidary and Level 2 ILM which have been well planned out and organised onto your timetable. In the 2nd and 3rd year, placements are arranged so that you can experience a variety of different roles in the maintenance sector.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Accomadation and food is all payed for in the first year so everything you earn is pocet money, in the 2nd and 3rd year you will get paid more to cover the cost of accomadation and uif you are moving away from home they will help you find accommodation ad help you par for it.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many oppourtunites in the maintenance sector as well as on the railways, you can go anywhere if you prove yourself to be good enough.

  • Yes

  • The company is fair and honest and they strive for a healthy and happy workforce while maintaining th e safety of the rail infrastructure, ensuring everyon is home safe everyday.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Network Rail?
  • Be perepared to move away from home for a year. Enjoy your time away from home and the course down at Portsmouth.
