On a daily basis, as an aircraft engineer i am responsible for the upkeep of aircrafts on a daily basis, this may vary from small cabin jobs to quite labour intensive jobs. The type of jobs you’d come across do in fact depend on the what department you are put in. We must use a series of aircraft manuals and experience to complete the jobs adequately.
I’ve most definitely have bettered my hand skills and I’ve developed an engineering mindset. I don’t shy away from problems at my place of work or at home, I find a solution to the issue at hand. I also have a better understanding of physics and other subjects such as maths, materials, etc.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme, everyday is something new and I’m always constantly learning, one day I may learn about the auto flight system the next I may learn about an aircrafts hydraulic system. Everyday is different, every day is a new experience and I’m glad to be in a programme that openly invites learning.
As I started my programme at the beginning of COVID, the structure didn’t initially go to plan, however, the programme has been very well structured for what is was. Management organised everything very well and dealt with changes to the government guidelines accordingly.
I am always encouraged by my managers to reach out if I am need of any sort of support. They encourage us to be open and honest which makes for a very comforting environment. We have regular meetings to check on our well-being and our managers encourage us to speak out if there are any issues.
Our training provider provides sufficient support when working towards my qualifications, they help us whenever they can and they do try to support us when it comes to sitting exams.
My qualifications help me on a daily basis to complete my role. I apply the knowledge I have acquired from my qualifications to understand what is needed for a job, my qualifications help me understand how a system would work and I would apply the hand skills I’ve required to complete the task accordingly.
There are always so many extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work, whether it is assisting in interview for new apprentices, or being part of an advert for our company or even being a pair of extra hands when arranging an office space, when there’s something to do they’ll happily offer us the opportunity
Yes
British Airways is an excellent company to work for, everyone is very friendly and supportive. They’ll l encourage you to keep aiming for the best and ensure that you do not slack off. British airways feels like a massive family and they’ll make sure you feel at home.
When you apply make sure you stand out. You have to prove you are the one for the job and you are different. The easiest way to stand out is to be yourself, there’s no one who can be you so just be yourself and hopefully that’s enough.
