My role is to experience the different roles within Network Rail, learn and get an understanding of how the different departments and roles work along with how the railway infrastructure has been built and is maintained.
I'd say that I have gained many skills that can be applied to maintain the railway.
Living away from home in our first year allowed me to meet new people from all over the UK many of which I have become very close friends with which I owe to the apprenticeship. I have enjoyed working in many different roles and circumstances.
I think that Network Rail do value their apprentices a great deal as from my experience many higher members of staff have been through the same apprenticeship and we all get the best quality training.
I say 9 out of 10 as it can be quite difficult getting paid for overtime/ night shifts due to the apprentices having a different pay structure to everyone else.
we get a lot of support when we are with the taining providers but we do not see them a great deal.
More than enough
The salary when I compare it to other apprentices that are at the same stage as me is very good. My downfall is that I live a champagne lifestyle on lemonade wages so at the minute I can struggle from time to time.
The qualifications I can gain from this apprenticeship does open a lot of doors for if I did want to move abroad so I would say so.
Yes
So far the apprenticeship has been quality. I've made great mates, had a lot of good experiences and I wouldn't say Iv've had a bad day. The opportunities are endless for when you finish as there are many different kinds of jobs.
Just enjoy it!
