  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in the second line of defence as a risk steward, I provide, support, guidance and advice regarding to our internal policies. I am responsible for revising policies, writing a gap analysis and managing risks. I also challenge the first line of defence to ensure it is managing effectively

  • Yes, I develop different skills every time I have to work in different work streams, we change experience between our teams and have opportunism to develop during this process, the main skills that I have developed are: Problem Solving Developing business writing Team work Critical thinking Communication and interpersonal skills

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy learning with experienced colleagues, have the opportunity to practise what I am learning during the apprenticeship scheme. We are treated with respect so we feel comfortable to talk and share our opinions. I also like the fact that we can migrate de different department to know they work with.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is a well organised programme, where I have one to one reviews, session with my coach, extra support if we have any disabilities. We also have the mentoring program which help us to focus on our strengths. The internal support from colleagues and trainee provider are essential to our growth.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive 100% support from my managers and colleagues across the bank in every single way. If I need to take time off to sort out personal issues, I can ask for. If I need a revision on my work stream to make sure that I am doing the right thing, I can have. They are brilliant when it comes to support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I believe they could be more focus on the areas of banking industry knowledge, they have a great support regarding to personal development, such as Business Writing course, Time management etc. But I would expect more technical development sessions as is good to have external oversight around what we are learning.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I believe that I will understand better the banking industry and I will develop the skills that my role requires. I also believe that the combination of studying and working during the same time will give a good background and will prepare me to perform better in my role as risk steward.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • They are a plenty of activities and opportunities to socialise with the colleagues across the bank. We are constantly taking part in social and professional events such as Sport teams Diversity groups Personal development groups Quarterly meeting Charities events Volunteer programs Professional networking events Celebrating commemorative days Lunch with the team

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend HSBC because it is a great place to work, were we can see diversity, speak up culture, good conduct and a supportive colleagues. Here, we feel that our opinion, how we feel as a professional, as a human and our professional growth, really matter. And we have all the tools to develop as a professional.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
  • Research on the company culture, if you feel that its match with your personal values then you are applying for the right place. A good conduct is essential to work in the financial industry, keep yourself informed about the financial marketing. I believe that a apprenticeship is a great opportunity to change or start a new career.
