  • Lead a team of Risk Managers responsible for maintaining standards across key governance activities, utilising resources effectively to support the risk agenda. Accountable for implementing Group Policy, identifying gaps and enhancing working practices in line with implementing changes to procedures.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Have gained a broad knowledge of business management, covering topics such as organisational strategy, financial performance, managing operations and delivering customer value. Am currently specialising my learning and qualification on entrepreneurial leadership.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Enjoying the acquisition of new skills and models but have found meeting individuals from a wide range of industries has helped me develop additional skills and knowledge that I have not anticipated.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Extremely organised. Complete timetable of events for the entire 2 years was provided on day 1. Communication from university has been second to none. Twice weekly drop in sessions provide additional support without the need to book in time with tutors.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Without the support from my immediate line manager I would have been unable to complete the degree apprenticeship. This includes having the necessary time off to complete the learnings, attending meetings with the university and mentoring me during the modules.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Training provider has an extremely efficient platform for delivering support. From an inhouse system, access to tutors on a 1-1 basis and twice weekly drop in sessions for when you have a quick query.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I've just been promoted which has been a direct result of implementing the learnings, particularly the personal development elements.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes - There are a number of Employee Resource Groups available including a mindfulness group which I am currently involved in.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • HSBC have an excellent framework for developing individuals and helping them achieve their career ambitions. Additionally they have a fantastic flexible working policy.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
  • Ensure your CV is relevant to the role you are applying for. Do not submit a generic CV for the role. Don't be afraid to tear up your CV and try something different. Having a CV which stands out from the crowd will get you through the door.
