Currently I'm doing second year of my apprenticeship course. Apprentice course is based in BMW Plant Oxford. This year we are doing 3 months long placements around Oxford plant in different technologies such as Paint Shop, Assembly, Body in White, Talent Factory. On daily basis we are working with maintenance team in technologies and assist them on their daily tasks( breaks downs, planned maintenance, etc.)
I learned skills such as: milling, turning, welding, electronics, electrical principles, principles of programmable logic controllers. I became familiar with hand fitting techniques such as filing, cutting, riveting, drilling, sanding. I also learned about use of Auto Cad, Onshape. I also developed skills regarding manual drawing techniques, and standards which applies to technical drawings
I'm happy with the programme I'm doing at the moment as it will help me with my future career in BMW Plant Oxford. More roles will be available for me after I will complete my course. There is plenty of jobs on BMW internal market which needs skills which I will develop during my course
Programme is very well organized. During induction week we had plenty of interesting presentations about our training. We could ask questions to students of older groups what we can expect. We have got good support from our training mentors. They are always available for us. During our placements we got many tasks to complete and they are well organized.
We have got enough support from our employer. All managers I met so far are treating me with respect. We have got regular meeting with our training supervisor. During those meetings we can discuss our progress and we also can raise any issues we have got. If I need any support from my HR it is always available.
All our tutors are very well trained and they know what they are doing. They are always happy to answer any question I got.
During the first year of my training i learned a lot of theory which I can utilize during my second year placements.
Unfortunately for covid reason there is not many chances to do social activities
