  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I manage the contracts for Nursing Homes and Homecare Providers across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire and ensure that they are delivering as they are commissioned to do. I am equally responsible for taking contractual action where required. I also lead Procurement exercises across this area of work. This is from service development through to contract award.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have been given the opportunity to take part in a Level 6 Apprenticeship alongside my role within the CCG. This is something I have always wanted to do. Within this I am being given the opportunity to develop in many areas by trying something new, but also by developing in things I already undertake.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am thoroughly enjoying the CMDA and the challenges that it is providing. As a full time working mature student it is without a doubt very hard work, but I have the support of both my family and the team at work which makes a huge difference. I am performing better than I could have hoped for and will continue to aim for that level.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We were provided with a 2 day induction which although was quite intense it was needed and it equipped us with the information and knowledge we needed to start the programme. The programme is very well organised and all of the staff are very visible and supportive. They offer catch ups and tutorials to all students which can provide the reassurance needed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager has been more than supportive of me, ensuring that I plan my off the job time into my diary. They have also been helpful when identifying pieces of work that I could get involved in to meet the requirements of my apprenticeship. HR were also very helpful with explaining what the programme would involve and helping with the application process.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Anything that a student needs is not too much trouble for the staff at MMU. They have been more than willing to answer questions more than once, provide reassurance to all students and ensure that we are comfortable with what we are being asked to do. The tutors are so knowledgeable and could not be more supportive.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • This programme has certainly provided me with skills that I can use in my day to day role. Not only that but skills I can share with my team. I have been able to learn new theory and be able to put that into practice at work which in turn has enabled me to perform better.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Currently there are very few extra activities to undertake at work. However I am very conscious of the need to relax and to have 'down time' I have a number of hobbies at home and also as a team we arrange regular outings outside of work to catch up in a non work environment and to relax.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NHS to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have worked within this organisation for 11 years and I am incredibly passionate about what I do. Every day is different and never predicable. Job roles evolve depending on the need of the population which requires staff to be adaptable. It is an organisation that provides a challenging and changing environment.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NHS?
  • When applying ensure you refer to all of the points on the person specification, approach it in a logical order so that the person shortlisting can see where you have provided evidence for each point. If you get an interview, prepare. You will be given the opportunity to ask questions so have a think about what you would like to know.
