  • Carry out engineering duties in various placements. The first year is full time at Tameside college where you work towards your HNC qualification. After that you rotate around the business carrying out different placements which are all related to engineering whilst also doing block release at college for HND. Final year is at university for a degree.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • You learn many new skills. This includes knowledge from College and University and then you develop knowledge, skills and behaviours according to the apprenticeship standard in the work placements. It is a beneficial way to develop hands on skills compared to a more theoretical route such as going to university.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme. You are well supported throughout the scheme by the managers and tutors. It is an enjoyable experience and you are respected in your role and treated well by all in the company. However, it can be stressing at times as the workload can get quite high with college/university and work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There is a decent structure to the programme but the structure can be outlined better to the apprentices. However, the amount of support and assistance which is provided by the management is excellent. The organisation and structure of college is good but could be better in some aspects of the learning.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • From the training provider there are meetings every 12 weeks to check in and provide any support required. Furthemore, there is support provided to complete the apprenticeship portfolio. Most of the tutors at college are good at teaching and are understanding. However, some tutors can improve in their methods of teaching the content.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my qualification does allow me to perform a better in my role. This is because the content which is taught through the college can be applied to the work which we do in the placements. This allows us the chance of applying our knowledge to actual applications.
