I shadow social workers and joint work cases in the initial response team. This includes home-visits, school visits, child in need meetings, child protection meetings and more.
yes, I have learnt new skills such as completing assessments and developed existing skills on direct work with young people and families
I love it - there can be times its hard to juggle the university side as well as work full time but mostly its enjoyable
From a work perspective it is well organised but often I feel university is dis-jointed and last minute with info. Work has a clear pathway for me to experience placement in all childrens services teams
A lot ! I have a employment mentor team and my team manager all attending meetings with me , doing one to ones and being available at all times to support me - plus time off when needed for assignments
You can reach out for support but it is not always quick, depends on the tutor. The skills mentor is only part time and I cant get hold of him at times and when asked to complete things he can often delay or not complete
Better as work is very hands on where as the qualification is all theory and behind the scenes understanding of families etc
Yes, social activities
Yes
Great team, supportive, understanding, promotes work life balance and overall great company
Go for it. You do get appreciated, listened to and supported - would highly recommend
